Head Instructor & Academy Founder
Coach Lev has dedicated over a decade to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,
training under world-class black belts and competing at the highest levels.
His teaching philosophy centers on building a deep technical foundation while
fostering a culture of respect, discipline, and continuous growth.
Whether you are stepping on the mat for the first time or preparing for
your next competition, Coach Lev’s structured, detail-oriented approach
will accelerate your development at every stage.
Fortis Jiu Jitsu Academy was founded with a single mission: to build a world-class
training environment where every student — regardless of age, size, or athletic
background — can discover the transformative power of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The name Fortis — Latin for “strong” — reflects our belief that true strength is
not just physical. It is the strength of character forged through consistent training,
the strength of community built through shared struggle, and the strength of mind
developed through the chess match on the mat.
Our structured curriculum is designed to take complete beginners and develop them
into confident, capable practitioners. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defence,
competition, or simply a new challenge, Fortis has a program for you.
Every class, every rep, every roll. We show up consistently and commit to the process.
The mat is a great equalizer. We train hard together and support each other off the mat.
Respect for your training partners, your instructors, and the art of Jiu-Jitsu itself.
We believe in continuous improvement — in technique, in mindset, and in life.
“I walked in knowing nothing about BJJ. Six months later I’m rolling with confidence

“My son has been in the Junior BJJ program for a year and the change in his
confidence and focus at school has been remarkable. The instructors genuinely
care about the kids. Highly recommend.”
“Competed for the first time after 8 months of training here and took gold.
The competition prep at Fortis is serious — Coach Lev knows exactly what
you need to be ready. The community is incredible too.”
Absolutely not. Our Beginners programs are specifically designed for people
with zero martial arts experience. You will be welcomed, guided, and never
thrown in over your head. Everyone starts at white belt.
For your free trial, wear comfortable athletic clothing — shorts and a t-shirt
are perfect. If you decide to join, we will guide you on purchasing a gi (kimono)
for the Gi classes. NoGi classes require shorts and a rash guard.
Gi BJJ uses a traditional kimono (gi) which allows for grip-based techniques
using the fabric. NoGi BJJ is practiced in shorts and a rash guard, is
faster-paced, and more directly applicable to MMA and self-defence scenarios.
We recommend training both.
On average, students who train consistently (3–4 times per week) receive their
blue belt within 12–18 months. Belt promotions at Fortis are based on technical
proficiency, mat time, and attitude — not a fixed timeline.
We offer flexible membership options including monthly unlimited,
class packs, and family discounts. Contact us or book a free trial
to discuss the best option for your schedule and budget.
We accept children from age 4 in our Little Ninjas program. Children aged
8 and up can join the Junior BJJ program. Both programs are taught by
certified instructors in a safe, structured, and fun environment.
Yes. BJJ is one of the safest martial arts for children because it focuses
on control and technique rather than striking. Our kids classes emphasize
safety, respect, and controlled drilling. Injuries are rare and we maintain
strict safety protocols at all times.
